The Tokoroa Axemen’s Club is one of New Zealand’s most respected woodchopping clubs, with a proud history that spans over 70 years. Based at the Tokoroa Memorial Sports Ground, we are dedicated to preserving and promoting the heritage sport of competitive woodchopping — a tradition deeply rooted in the forestry and rural culture of Aotearoa.

Founded in a region known for its strong ties to the timber industry, the club has grown from its early days of farmer and bushman competitors to a diverse community of athletes. Today, our members include men, women, teens, and children from all walks of life — from mechanics, engineers, office administrators and students — all united by a shared passion for the sport.
